Accreditation for official delegations

Online registration went live from 15 June to 17 July 2018. Use only Internet Explorer version 10 or more for compatibility with the online registration system.

An electronic accreditation form must be populated by a nodal person.

Relevant official delegations’ details must be fully completed on mandatory fields for it to be saved on the system. Attach the electronic BMP or JPEC format passport size photographs.

The country nodal persons are requested to collect the accreditation badges from 20 to 22 July 2018 at Radisson Blue Gautrain Station in Sandton. This will be done through scheduled appointment.

Live accreditation for delegations not attending the summit meetings will open daily on the same venue and dates above from 08:30 until 18:00.

The delegation should present themselves by producing passports or identity documents to get accreditation badges.

Reminder to all delegates attending the 10th BRICS Summit 2018:

  • Display the accreditation badges at all times.
  • Note that access to secure venues is restricted only to official delegation.

Official media

Only three Official Media per country will be given accreditation for the summit: one photographer, one video/camera person and an official media liaison officer.

All Official Media will have to be accredited online for the official delegation by the Embassy of their country from the 16 June 2018 to 13 July 2018.

Official Media bringing equipment to the summit must submit a list of all equipment with serial numbers, name of equipment and type on a Note Verbal via their respective embassies before the closing date.

The following accreditation process will apply:

Venue and dates

  • Live media accreditation will take place at Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel from 16 July to 27 July 2018.
  • The Media Accreditation Centre will operate from 09:00 to 17:00.
  • Accreditation will be only for media that have applied online and have been approved for accreditation.
  • All other media, except Official Media, must have applied online on the GCIS webpage. The application closed on 22 June 2018.

Required documents to accompany application form

  • A copy of a valid passport/ID, professional press card or equivalent identification.
  • A letter of assignment on a letterhead from the journalist’s organisation, indicating his/her function.

NB: It is also advisable to carry hard copies of all the required documents in case of any necessary security checks.

Failure to produce the above-mentioned documents will result in your accreditation being declined.

Passports and visas

Members of the media from those countries exempted from visa requirements to South Africa need not apply for visas.

All other applicants must comply with the South African visa requirements.

Journalists should contact the nearest South African Diplomatic or Consular Mission to request a South African visa.

Yellow fever certificates will be required at the ports of entry for journalists travelling from yellow fever-designated countries.

Official media travelling on diplomatic passports do not require a visa to enter South Africa.

Customs clearance for media equipment

Accredited media personnel bringing technical equipment with them to South Africa will be subject to full customs control. Therefore, journalists are requested to send their lists of equipment (two copies) together with their application for accreditation.

Journalists bringing in heavy equipment that will require space outside of the plenary halls will need to relay this information before 6 July 2018 to the following officials:

Ms Laoura Lazouraz ([email protected] and Ms Mmemme Mogotsi ([email protected])

Journalists are required to apply for an ATA carnet, which is used to clear customs without paying duties and import taxes on merchandise that will be re-exported.

See more information on the media guidelines.

The 10th BRICS Summit 2018 Accreditation Committee wishes you all a successful participation and joyous moment on this auspicious event in South Africa.
